Dave Chappelle is a Washington-born television personality, author, and stand-up comic. Most critics agree that Chappelle is poetically unfiltered, which means that no topics are off the menu when he is on the mic.
Dave often jokes about racial issues, politics, and even sexual orientation when he is feeling particularly brave. His range of comedy is evident in comedy specials like ‘Sticks & Stones‘, which airs on Netflix.
Chappelle has also featured in several films, including Con Air, Undercover Blues, and Blue Streak. In this article, we will look at Dave Chappelle’s family members.
Parents: Father William David Chappelle III and Mother Yvonne Reed.
David Khari Webber Chappelle is the son of William David and Yvonne Reed. William was a former vet and music professor. He was born on the 16th of December 1938 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Long before he joined the army, Chappelle was a student at the prestigious Brown University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Music. Other than this, William was also a student at Antioch University.
When he was done with college, Dave Sr. officially enlisted in the military, where he’d serve for four years. During this time, he’d also hone his skills as a clarinet player. Sources say that William played a key role in Ohio’s civil rights movement.
He was not only one of the co-founders of H.U.M.A.N (help us make a nation) but also a prominent part of the Yellow Springs Human Relations Commission. William also spent a good portion of his time teaching anti-racist activism at his old university.
Dave’s father lost his life back in August 1998, aged 59-years old. 12 years after his passing, William was honored with the Walter F. Anderson Award. This is a distinction given to people who worked hard to break down racial and ethnic barriers.
Dave Chappelle’s mother is a woman named Yvonne Seon. She is an accomplished academic and University professor who is adept at teaching government administration and African Studies. At one point, she even worked for the Federal Government.
This was set in motion after meeting Patrice Lumumba, the then Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Because of her fluency in French and her proficiency when it came to Politics, Lumumba invited Yvonne to work in her cabinet.
She and William would not tie the knot until sometime in the 60s after she had moved back to the States.
His Brothers.
Dave has two brothers, William S. Chappelle and Yusuf Abdulah. Unlike the popular comedian, Dave’s brothers like to keep to themselves. Information about them remains fairly scarce to date.
What we did manage to learn is that William is older than Dave. Yusuf, on the other hand, is younger than Dave. He is also his half-brother.
Dave Chappelle Sister Felicia Chappelle Jones.
Dave Chappelle only has one sister. Her name is Felicia Chappelle Jones. Felicia followed in the same footsteps as her brother, working as an actress in the entertainment industry. Last year, she returned to acting after a two-decade hiatus from the spotlight.
Her return was marked with the premiere of the one-woman show ‘Motherhood Interrupted.’ The show first aired at Antioch College’s Foundry Theater. Before she made her return to the theater, Felicia worked as a co-host of the 88.9 WCSU radio show, ‘Talk To Me.’
Despite enjoying success as a radio host, Felicia yearned to return to making art and leaving her mark in the world.
Wife and kids.
While talking about Dave Chappelle’s family, we can’t miss his beautiful wife and their kids. Dave Chappelle is married to a woman named Elaine. Sources say that the couple first met while Dave was in Brooklyn, New York. At the time, he was still an amateur comedian struggling to make a name for himself in the industry.
This however did not stop Elaine from dating him, and the pair would eventually go on to tie the knot back in 2001. Despite being a rising star at the time, the wedding ceremony was a low-key affair with only close friends and family in attendance.
The two will celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2021.
So far, Dave and Elaine have three children together. These are Ibrahim, Sulayman, and Sonal Chappelle.
At 22, Sulayman is the oldest of the trio. He is followed closely by Ibrahim, who is 17-years old presently.
Sonal is the youngest sibling. She was born in 2009 and will celebrate her 12th birthday in 2021. Dave does his best to keep all of his children away from the limelight.
